several different sites to make sure that it’s really on your end – and
it is. So what do you do now? These tips will help you figure out how to

Make
sure that your firewall allows Firefox to connect to the Internet.
If you’ve made any changes to your firewall (upgrading, tweaking
settings, et cetera), Firefox might not be on the “allowed” list.
-
Disable the proxy server. Sometimes Firefox, like any other Internet
application, goes a little nuts when it tries to connect through a
proxy. Temporarily disabling the proxy might fix the problem – or,
at the very least, narrow down the possibilities.
-
Hit
the “Reload” button. Sometimes Firefox, like any other Web browser,
has a problem loading the Web page on the first try. Reloading once
or twice usually fixes this problem.
-
Clear your cache, history, and cookies. Dump everything, basically.
This gives Firefox a “fresh start.” It won’t have already-saved data
(Web pages you’ve visited in recent history, that is) to go by: it
will have to load the sites as if visiting them for the first time.
-
Restart Firefox. Sometimes the browser just needs to start again.
This clears a lot of the errors and other problems that can prevent
pages from loading.
-
Reboot your system. This is actually a good way to fix many Windows
problems. And if you’ve been creating restore points, you can revert
to the last “good” configuration. That’s sometimes easier than
trying to figure out where things went wrong.
-
Check recent changes to Firefox’s settings. Have you tweaked any
settings? If so, you might have inadvertently created a problem.
Revert to the old settings to see if this solves the problem.
-
Check your extensions/add-ons. Have you updated any of them lately?
Have you downloaded and installed new extensions? If so, one or more
of them could be causing problems. Disable the new or newly-updated
extensions to see if this fixes the problem.
-
Check your Firefox version. If you’ve just updated to a
newly-released version, you might have problems. This is not as
likely as the things mentioned earlier, but it’s still possible.
-
Run
your antivirus and anti-spyware software. There is a small chance
that you’ve inadvertently picked up a nasty program that has
affected Firefox. If so, your antivirus and anti-spyware programs
should catch and eliminate the malicious coding.
If
you’re still having problems, you should use another Web browser (or
another computer) to visit Firefox’s Web site. The technical support
there can help you figure out what’s going on and, in most cases, offer
a good solution.
One thing you can do to help yourself is to make backups of all your
important data. Firefox fans have created several extensions that make
it easy for you to back up everything from your bookmarks to your
cookies. That way, if your Firefox problem is serious enough to merit a
complete reinstallation, you won’t lose everything that you’ve spent the
last few months (or even years) installing and customizing.
